Mandible 2 articles

The mandible is the lower jawbone and the only major movable bone of the facial skeleton. Its body, rami, alveolar process, mandibular canal, mental foramina and condylar processes support the lower dentition and provide attachment for muscles involved in mastication. Dental procedures rely on this anatomy for local anaesthesia, implant planning, surgery, radiographic interpretation and prosthetic care. The definition encompasses the whole lower jaw rather than only its tooth-bearing alveolar portion.
