Publishing Principles

See how The Young Dentist moves stories from idea and research through drafting, source checks, sensitive-claim review, publication and updates.

Updated

The Young Dentist publishes dentistry and oral-health journalism, education, analysis and professional context for readers in the United States and internationally.

These principles describe the editorial lifecycle from idea selection through research, review, publication and post-publication updates.

From Idea to Publication

  1. Idea. Subjects may originate from clinical research, professional guidance, regulation, patient-safety issues, policy, technology, industry developments, professional discussion, reader suggestions or gaps in existing coverage.
  2. Research. The editorial process identifies sources appropriate to the subject, including research, reviews, guidelines, regulators, public-health sources, datasets, universities, direct statements and manufacturer documents for product-specific facts.
  3. Draft. The article should distinguish verified facts, research findings, clinical guidance, expert interpretation, editorial judgment, manufacturer claims and uncertainty.
  4. Editorial review. Review may consider accuracy, source quality, clarity, clinical relevance, limitations, jurisdiction, fairness, commercial conflicts and headline accuracy.
  5. Source check. Material source links, names, dates, quotations, numbers, affiliations and product specifications may be checked.
  6. Sensitive-claim check. Diagnosis, treatment, patient safety, drug or device safety, professional misconduct, licensing, regulation and serious allegations require additional caution.
  7. Publish. Final publication decisions remain human editorial decisions. Commercial payment or product access does not guarantee publication.
  8. Update. Articles may be updated when evidence, guidance, regulation, product information or important context changes.

Content Labels

Labels such as News, Analysis, Explainer, Guide, Review, Ranking, Interview, Opinion, Methodology and Press Release help readers understand the nature of material before or while reading it.

Clear labels help prevent opinion, supplied material, rankings and independent reporting from being interpreted as the same type of content.

Commercial Separation

Display advertising is planned, including Google AdSense, and direct advertising enquiries may be accepted. Sponsored content is not currently an established publishing format, and no established affiliate programme currently operates.

Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.

See Advertising, Sponsored Content Policy and Rankings and Reviews Methodology.

Press Releases, AI, Images and Data

Press releases and company statements may identify developments worth investigating, but their language does not automatically determine independent editorial framing.

AI-assisted tools may be used for image generation and illustration, while human editors remain responsible for published material. Images should not create a materially false impression about a person, event, clinical case, product or research finding.

Important statistics should be traceable to an identifiable source where relevant, with the population, geography, time period and methodology considered where they affect interpretation.

Corrections and Reader Feedback

Verified factual errors should be corrected according to their significance. Potential errors may be reported to corrections@theyoungdentist.com.

Editorial feedback may be sent to editorial@theyoungdentist.com.
