CephX's 2D and 3D imaging suite will be added to Planet DDS's cloud platform for orthodontic and specialty practices. The change comes through a new partnership between Orca Dental AI and Planet DDS.
Planet DDS describes its wider ecosystem as supporting more than 100 integrated partners, with self-scheduling, digital intake and automated recall and marketing connected to a single patient record.
Dental service organisations and multi-location specialty groups will also get a central view across their sites. Orca and Planet DDS say the combined system should cut turnaround times and operating costs. They also say it will support more consistent diagnostics, case presentation and medico-legal compliance.
The deal fits a wider shift in dental software. Companies are placing AI inside the systems clinicians already use instead of selling it as a separate tool. Planet DDS presents Cloud 9 as part of its platform for orthodontic and specialty practices, including multi-location operations.

The business case is simple. Putting imaging inside practice software can remove handoffs between diagnostic and administrative systems. A similar push toward AI-assisted dental software was reported earlier in the market. This agreement focuses specifically on specialty imaging and oversight across multiple locations.
CephX's value will depend on more than its ability to analyse radiographs. The analyses must appear at the right point in the clinical workflow. They must also deliver the consistency Orca and Planet DDS promise. Based on the facts announced here, the partnership moves AI closer to daily operations in specialty dentistry instead of keeping it as a separate diagnostic experiment.
