Align Technology launched SHIFT Happens in the U.S. on September 28, 2026, to explain why teeth can move throughout adulthood and connect consumers with Invisalign-trained doctors.

Teeth can keep moving long after orthodontic treatment ends. Align Technology is using that fact as the starting point for SHIFT Happens, a new U.S. consumer campaign that connects adults with Invisalign-trained doctors. In its September 28 announcement, Align said the campaign will help doctors explain lifelong tooth movement and turn public interest into a clinical conversation.

The process can affect people who had orthodontic treatment and those who never wore braces. Teeth naturally tend to move slightly forward and toward the midline over time. That shift can cause crowding at the front of the mouth, spacing changes and misalignment as adults age.

Align Technology announced the U.S. launch of SHIFT Happens on September 28, 2026, framing lifelong tooth movement as an issue that Invisalign-trained doctors can explain in a clinical conversation.

SHIFT Happens presents these changes as a reason to speak with a dental professional. Align says teeth sit within living bone and supporting tissues. Those tissues change throughout life.

Align estimates that 200 million U.S. adults could benefit from orthodontic treatment. Only about 1% are currently in treatment. Adults are the largest group that Align identifies as having an opportunity to improve their oral health through orthodontic care.

That is a large gap.

Frank Quinn, EVP and managing director Americas, said adults may notice changes in their teeth without understanding that movement is part of ageing. "Many adults notice changes in their teeth over time but may not understand that tooth movement is part of the aging process. Teeth exist within a living system of bone and supporting tissues that naturally change throughout life, which can lead to crowding, spacing, and misalignment or other oral health issues," Quinn said. Align included the statement in its official campaign announcement.

Align describes SHIFT Happens as a way for Invisalign-trained doctors to explain lifelong tooth movement and connect that awareness with a clinical discussion about treatment.

The campaign's clinical message goes beyond appearance. Align says tooth movement takes place within living bone and supporting tissues and may have implications for oral health. Treatment still depends on an assessment by a dental professional.

Align is also putting local doctors at the center of the marketing effort. Invisalign-trained providers can use customizable creative, social media activation, co-marketing resources and community opportunities in their practices. Pilot campaigns in the San Francisco Bay Area and Tampa showed consumer response when doctors brought the idea to local markets, Align said.

Local outreach is the point.

"This campaign puts doctors at the center of the consumer experience," said Kamal Bhandal, SVP, Global Brand, Consumer and Americas Marketing. Align is providing campaign assets and practice marketing resources through the Invisalign Practice Marketing Hub. Consumers are directed to Invisalign.com for information about shifting teeth and help locating an Invisalign-trained doctor.
For providers, the commercial opportunity is straightforward. Adults make up a large untreated audience. The campaign gives practices a ready-made explanation for a concern that many patients already see in the mirror.
Dr. Derick Phan of Phan Orthodontics in San Jose, California, said he was excited about the adult education opportunity. He also believed more could be done to help deliver new smiles.
The focus on adult demand fits within a broader U.S. market for smile-focused treatment. That market has also drawn attention in an earlier market report on dental implant demand. The treatments differ. The patient-facing pattern is similar: adults are increasingly hearing explanations that connect oral changes with decisions about care.
Align is presenting Invisalign as one response to the "shift". Treatment choices remain with Invisalign-trained doctors. That distinction matters. Lifelong tooth movement is a general biological process, while the right intervention depends on each patient's needs.
SHIFT Happens is a targeted education and patient-acquisition campaign, not a clinical guideline. It puts adult orthodontics in front of consumers who may have noticed crowding or spacing but never considered returning to treatment.
The path is simple. A familiar change prompts a question. A local doctor provides the next step.
