Professional cleaning 1 article

Professional cleaning is chairside removal of plaque, calculus and extrinsic stain by a trained dental professional using instruments such as scalers, curettes, polishing devices or air-polishing systems. The exact procedure depends on periodontal status and may range from routine prophylaxis to more extensive subgingival debridement. It complements daily home care rather than replacing it, and a cosmetic polish should be distinguished from periodontal instrumentation intended to disrupt deposits within pockets and around diseased root surfaces.
