Peer review is the evaluation of scholarly work by other people with relevant expertise before or after publication. In dental journals, reviewers commonly examine research methods, interpretation, reporting quality, originality and whether conclusions are supported by the submitted evidence, then provide comments to editors and authors. The process is intended to strengthen editorial assessment but does not guarantee that a study is correct. It differs from a journal club because the purpose is publication review rather than professional education.
