Temporomandibular joint 1 article

The temporomandibular joint is the paired articulation between the mandibular condyle and the temporal bone. An articular disc, capsule, ligaments and surrounding muscles allow rotation and translation as the jaw opens, closes and moves laterally. Clinical assessment may address pain, joint sounds, range of motion, function and occlusal relationships when temporomandibular disorders are suspected. This articulation is one component of the wider masticatory system and is not synonymous with occlusion or jaw-muscle function.
