Professionalism in dentistry describes the standards of behaviour, judgment and accountability expected from people entrusted with patient care. It includes honesty, respect, competence, appropriate boundaries, reliable communication, confidentiality and willingness to act when safety is at risk. Professionalism is wider than technical skill or politeness because it shapes how decisions are made when personal, commercial and patient interests conflict, and expectations apply in clinical settings, education, teamwork and public or online conduct.
