Work the World
Work the World provides safe, structured overseas dental placements that are tailored to your interest. Gain experience treating rare disease and advanced pathologies in Africa, Asia and South America. Pre-departure preparation, full placement organisation, meals and accommodation in the Work the World house and 24/7 in-country support are included.
For the majority of people in the developing world, oral and dental health is unfortunately not considered a priority. Even though lifestyle, diet and location in many of our destinations creates problems for peoples teeth and gums, countless people wait as long as possible before seeking help. Strong relationships with our partner hospitals and clinics, offers opportunities for practical work in scaling, extractions, fillings and root canal treatment. Specialist placements in oral cancer, maxillofacial and surgery are also available.

Dentaid’s mission is to provide people of disadvantaged communities with oral health care services in their community. This is done by delivering equipment, training and education to oral health professionals as well as the community.
Dentaid has worked in over 70 countries providing equipment, training, treatment and education.
Our volunteering programmes are rewarding on many levels. You will work as a team in cross cultural situations and learn from local dental professionals on how they cope with the challenges of providing dental care in under-resourced settings. You will meet the locals by running outreach oral education programmes to schools and communities as prevention is key. By volunteering you will have an impact on the dental health of those in dire need as well as develop your own skills to add to your CV, CPD and awards.
The type of work most commonly carried out on volunteer trips are:
- Atraumatic Restorative Treatments (ART) - simple fillings without drills.
- Tooth extractions.
- Providing preventative fissure sealant treatments to children
- Providing oral health education in cross cultural situations.
- Dentaid ran nine overseas dental missions where, on an average two week dental mission we provided treatment to over 1000 people
- We manufactured and supplied 25 Dentaid Boxes (which provides all the equipment needed to provide basic dental care) to projects around the world
- Provided three fully reconditioned dental surgeries and well as instrument packs to over 20 different projects
- Supported in country dental health professionals in 3 different countries to complete outreach clinics in deprived areas.
Bridge2Aid, is a dental volunteer charity that works in East Africa, which have reached more than a million people through its dental volunteer programme. They provide emergency access to pain relief to those who need it through their Dental Volunteer Programme (DVP).
B2A's chief executive Ian Wilson explains: 'With over four billion people worldwide with no access to safe, basic emergency dentistry, training local health workers to treat their own people is a key strategy to alleviating the weight of this burden'.
'Dental pain causes more lost work days each year than malaria! With over 200,000 people in East Africa alone experiencing pain each day, we are pushing ahead with training to provide access to emergency dentistry to half a million people in 2010 – that's one every 60 seconds.'
Bridge2Aid offers this support to an area in need of dentists, just one of the places in the world included in the 70% without access to a dentist.

Now, there will be no shortage of dental volunteering activity.
